Happy New Year!

Hello OCSI Students! I am looking forward to seeing you in J-Term next week. I hope that your J-Term reading is going well.

For those of you who are taking Psychology this semester, here is some information on the class that you mmight want to know about:

J-Term: Psychology Class

Hour: Periods 1-4, 8:30am-12:05 pm

Course description: As stated on the OCSI Course Catalog, “Psychology is an introductory course that will introduce students to the study of psychology, its methods, theory and research, and history. The course will explore psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with some of the major subfields of psychology, such as theory and history, research methods, sensation and perception, states of consciousness, motivation and emotion, development, stress, and abnormal behavior. All of these will be examined from a Christian perspective.”

You will need the following materials for this class:
-- A4 or B5 Loose leaf paper for all assignments, except for journal.
-- B5 Notebook for journal: must be consistently used. (English Students: Using your regular journal is fine.)
-- Pens/pencils.
-- IR book
--(Assigned and provided) Textbook: Psychology: Principles in Practice: Holt, Rinehart, & Winston, 1998.

9th English
--Finish your journals to turn in on Monday, 11/1.
--Be sure you have e-mailed me your letters for your penpals by Saturday, 10/30.
--Work on your research papers. You should have finished the following: Thesis Statement, Outline, Two introduction paragraphs. If you can begin drafting the body paragraphs, that would help you, because 5 paragraphs will be due early next week.

College Writing
The four of you who have not yet delivered your speeches for the persuasive essays need to be prepared for those on Monday, 11/1!

9th Grade: Writing Assignment for 9/23

Prompt: Write a summary of one of the books you have read for IR this year. Explain the book's theme and give your view of that message. Would you recommend this book to other 9th graders? Why or why not?

The length should be 3-4 paragraphs.

Please publish your assignment as a note on this post.

12th Grade: Article Assignment for 9/24

12th Graders: Please attach a NOTE to this blog with your completed yearbook article based on High School Friendship Night.

Your article should be interesting, descriptive, and use sensory details to make readers feel as if they were there!

2-3 paragraphs please.

Remember, this article will be graded! The best one will also appear in the OCSI Yearbook.
